Photography Self Evaluation
-------------------------------------------------------------
1.What was it that you set out to achieve? And, did you reach your goal?
My goal was to make a (6) photo essay that told a story. I was particularly aiming for a significant event that occurred in my life to convey the emotions I were feeling through the photos. I chose to do my L's driving test

2. How well did you manage your time in class and at home?
I managed my time quite well in and out of class to complete the task. As I did the prac. out of class and the theory in class.
3.What did you learn to do in this task?
In this task I feel I learnt how to conduct a photo shoot better as it was my first time and now I know what's going on in them and I am more aware of what needs to be done. In this time period of the assignment I also learnt how to use photo shop to edit some photos and to manipulate them to look better and add more detail in them.

4.What was something you learnt about in this task?
I now have a better understanding of how to display emotion in a photo through different techniques such as depth of field, lighting, White Balance, etc.

5.What area could you improve on if you had more time?
If we had more time I think I could have done my initial thought for the photo essay which was surfing but because we were moving at the time it didn't allow us to go to the beach as we usually do. Causing me to change my topic.

6.What could you do to improve the task requirements?
Learn from my peers and from the past students and see what they did and how they achieved it. I could use them as a precedent to see how they succeeded and/or failed and apply that to my working.

Statement of Intent
My Intent for my photo journalistic essay is to show everyone the memories they have and for some the memories they will create when they go for they're L's Driving test. I want to show the emotional change you will feel going for your license. From nervousness to excitement to joy...or sadness. Either way anyone can relate to this photo essay one way or another in their life. My meaning is to give someone memories of a very special occasion.

Tehani, 8, Yemen. “Whenever I saw him, I hid. I hated to see him,” Tehani (in pink) recalls of the early days of her marriage to Majed, when she was 6 and he was 25. The young wife posed for a portrait with former classmate Ghada, also a child bride, outside their home in Hajjah

I think this Photo is a
great juxtaposition of an image in reference to the western world, as it
displays many different characteristics within it to contradict our way of
learning and our rules and laws. For example the fact that these children at
age 6, are forced into marriage by their families. To marry a 25 year old in
our society is normally a good age, or even a bit early in some cases to get
married…but that’s to another 25 year old. These kindy/ year 1 kids in our
society, just learning the ways of reading and writing are being forced to
marry. I mean this is the largest and most important difference in the two
cultures. There are other differences such as the clothing that they have on
and the typography of the land. But this is the main point of which Stephanie
was trying to extract from the photo and situation.

American soldiers on a morning patrol in
Afghanistan, Restrepo Camp. I think the silhouette of the soldiers is something
that is the true center point of the photo as it doesn’t show the soldiers
faces but their silhouette/ shadow left in Afghanistan. Their mark left in that
country and their sacrifices to serve and protect their mates in the line of
fire. I believe the sunrise is the brink of hope coming over the mountains as
the sun is a source of warmth, safety and life. I the picture we see the trees
with no leaves, dead, withering away, representing the sacrifices some of them
have made. Dead but not forgotten.

I think
that this photo is amazing due to the fact of the raw nature and unprecedented
events in the life of a deep sea fisherman. The focal point to where our eye is
drawn to is the man in the yellow coat. And then to the sea gulls. The photo isn’t
lined up on the horizons which makes the image/ scenario feel rough or
unsettled. Which is exactly the truth of deep sea fishing. The photo has rich,
basic colours which are very appealing to the eye and display a great deal of
depth.
